Dr. Gentimis is perhaps the clearest teacher and researcher I’ve encountered in my entire academic life. He possesses an incredible innate ability to convey complex ideas in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. As his teaching and research assistant for 2 years, he would painstakingly explain not just the fundamentals of the teaching modules or research problems, but how to discover those fundamentals from first principles,. As his assistant, I also got bird’s eye view to some of his innovations – more specifically the module that incorporates Machine Learning to Agribusiness. I learnt a great deal about his practical leadership during that period. He would always stress that his main job as a teacher was to equip me with the skills to effectively arrive at objective conclusions, critique those conclusions, and make informed choices or decisions. These are treasured values I still live by today as a Senior Data Scientist at a Fortune Global 100 company.
